In-Reply-To: What did bulk of British army do after Dunkirk until 1944? posted by Ron on 10:24:47 AM 27 Mar 2002
The British Army was also fighting in India and Burma in the "Forgotten War" with the Japanesse and in the South Pacific. But the in Europe they mostly trained and got ready for the suspected Operation Sealion, which was the planned invasion of England by Hitler, fortunately, the Luffawae was unable to eliminate the Brits airforce and the operation was never carried through. The real reason they didnt doany hting is cus they couldnt. It was only till the invention of long range bombers and Russia's invasion of Poland and Belrussia that made invasion practical. Hello, : I was wondering whether any of the history buffs in this forum have any idea what the bulk of the British army were doing during the period after Dunkirk through until June 1944? : I know there was the North Africa campaign in 1941-1943, but this involved no more than : about at most (I could be wrong on this, but : I think it's about right)300,000 British troops (not Commonwealth or Empire )out of a force of an army numbering at it's peak(1944) some 2.7 million.I also know there was the Italian campaign in 1943 to 1944.But I think the same number of British troops were involved in this as in the N.Africa campaign-indeed it was the same army, the 8th army(many elements of which were commonwealth troops-S.African, New Zealand, Australian,Indian etc), that fought in both campaigns. There were also troops in Malaya and Burma, but again these were no more than at most 200,000 British troops ( again not Commonwealth or Empire troops). : : So it would appear that most BRitish troops were in Britain for most of the war, until 1944.Even then at least half of the Britsh army were still in Britain. Were they used in logistics,AA defence etc and training for most of this period, preparing for the 1944 invasion? Is this an accurate represenation of the deployment of the British army in this period?I would be interested to hear any opinions on this. : : Regards : : Ron : :

Spammers do this with automated "bots" that constantly search the Web looking for e-mail addresses. Since you're a human being, not a bot, you can easily obtain the real address by removing the text that says "ThisisToPreventSpam-XYZ-RemoveThis." including the random number XYZ and the period at the end. For example, <whitten@ThisIsToPreventSpam-123-RemoveThis.despammed.com> would become <chris-(@)-interesting.com>.
