World War II Forum: why did ww2 start and who started it?

everytime I watch a movie it's always the same thing.we are either running one way and shooting at germans or were're going the other way and getting our legs blown off. I am really dying to know why ww2 started, who invaded who, what were they hoping to get out of it, and why did the japanese pearl harbor us?
I mean, I understand what my uncle went through was very difficult. (which is why he drank like a fish.)
I kinda regret not asking him all this before his spirit left his body.
ccan anyone out there make it clear to me?
