World War II Forum: US Army, 1st Infantry Division, North AfricaPosted by: Von Deardorff (sykes106@ThisIsToPreventSpam-27-RemoveThis.cox.net) on 9 Oct 2002 at 11:49:53 AM Von was my great-Uncle, and was taken prisoner by German forces during the battle for Kasserine pass in North Africa, 1942. My uncle Von survived the war and his internment to return home to his family in Indiana. He has since passed away, and I am in the process of obtaining his service records in an attempt to document more fully his experiences in WWII. My family has some of his personal effects, including some uniforms, and most importatnly, some of his letters home from the camp where he was held, which I believe to be Luft-Stalag 12. I know it's a long shot, but if anyone reading this remembers my Uncle Von from his wartime service, pleast contact me at the email address provided. My sincerest thanks go out to all veterans of that most terrible of conflicts. My generation owes everything we have today to the incredible bravery, commitment, and fortitude of your generation, and we shall never forget.
